The Amir Institute provides shelter for disadvantaged children from local communities in Gorgan, northern Iran. These children are orphans or have been given up by parents who cannot support them. The children range in age from as young as two to as old as seventeen. There are currently more than 25 children supported by the institute.
Amir approached Yarra Foundation in 2013 asking for assistance in providing educational support for their children. Yarra Foundation undertook a fundraising campaign and was able to provide:
Stationery, books, and school uniforms for all the children;
Transportation facilities for two disabled children who had special educational needs provided at a specialised external school;
Computer classes for three students; and
English language classes for three students.
